Friday Faves

photo 2-31 {two weeks until spring!}

Happy Friday, friends! Two blog posts in one week, can you believe it? Let’s see if I can keep it up for the month of March. St. Patty’s Day, March Madness, a new baby niece….so much material, how could I not? That’s right – I’m officially an auntie times two! Little Harper Elizabeth joined us on Wednesday, a week early (so I hope she didn’t expect her blanket to be finished!). She’s pretty perfect…and so tiny!

What are you up to this weekend? Something fun I hope! I’m heading out of town tonight (sadly, not to Vegas for the WCC tournament), and I’ll be frantically trying to finish up Harper’s blanket on my flight.  Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Go Zags! Some fun links and pics from the week:

Hello, Friday! I hope everyone had a wonderful short week, and is looking forward to a relaxing (and football-filled!) weekend. I’m excited for the first Husky home game tomorrow (even if it is EPSN’s “upset alert” of the weekend – yikes), and for a Sunday filled with lots of good fantasy matchups (since my Hawks already killed it last night). Some fun links for your lunch hour:

{look what the april showers brought!}

Hello, Friday! I’m off to Austin for a very dear friend’s bachelorette party this weekend, and could not be more excited for some girl time, sunshine, and BBQ.  OK maybe not that last part (Austin is wasted on this picky vegetarian!), but I’m looking forward to exploring the city, particularly the music scene.  My weather app is predicting 91-degree temperatures, so I’m not sure how much we’ll stray from the pool, but once we do…..look out, 6th Street! And of course, the Blazers are playing in Portland tonight, but I’ll be cheering them on from Texas – I’m going to try not to jinx them like I did last week!

Some fun links for your Friday morning – including one for Cinco de Mayo and one for the Derby! Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

  • One of my favorite posts from my friend Yoona’s blog (please note that “Cuz” and I have the same exfoliator).
  • Cinco de Mayo cupcakes – and quite a few helpful cupcake tips.
  • How amazing is Emma Stone in this lip sync battle?
  • A mint julep recipe in honor of the Kentucky Derby.
  • Getting to know George Clooney’s fiancé.

Tulips at the market

Happy Friday, friends! All of the tulips, daffodils, and crocuses popping up in the markets and yards make me feel like spring is finally here! Just last week I was scraping ice off my car, yet next week’s forecast is in the 70s.  Such a crazy time of year!  Some fun inspiration in honor of the season of renewal:

And then, some not-necessarily-springy highlights from my (last few) week(s). Have a wonderful weekend!

Bundt cakes (lemon poppyseed and rum) for my dear friends’ wedding last weekend – in lieu of having a traditional wedding cake, the bride asked about twenty of her girlfriends to make their favorite bundt cakes. Tragically,  my cakes and I ended up missing the wedding due to a terribly-timed bout with the norovirus, but all reports said the bundt cake table was a hit!

My new baby nephew’s first stationary from my new Etsy fave.  I’m going to try really hard not to overwhelm this blog with pics of all the baby things I can’t seem to stop buying, but I thought these were extra cute! And what unborn baby doesn’t need personalized thank you notes?

Happy Labor Day Weekend, friends! Its always a little bitersweet to say goodbye to Summer, but I think Fall is in the air – it was gray and rainy in Seattle yesterday, college football starts tomorrow, and in case you haven’t seen it all over Facebook/Instagram, the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back (a few weeks early, IMHO). I’m looking forward to celebrating my cousin Max’s wedding tonight, and the first Husky game in our new stadium tomorrow. I hope everyone has fun plans for the long weekend!

Very Berry Sangria, from Real Simple Magazine

1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
1/2 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup strawberries, sliced
1 12 oz. bottle of ginger ale
1/2 cup sugar (or simple syrup, to taste)
2 oz. blackberry liqueur

Toss the wine, berries, sugar or simple syrup, and liqueur in a pitcher, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Pour in ginger ale just prior to serving. Fill individual glasses with ice and pour sangria over ice. We then topped with champagne, optional. Cheers!

It’s ironic that all of this week’s favorites involve food or drink, since I’ve been on a juice cleanse for the better part of the week. I promise that in some cases (donut, flasks) I just took a picture – I didn’t actually eat them/drink from them. But in some cases (ice cream) I did, which is why I then need to juice cleanse!

How yummy does this Top Pot donut look? Sprinkles make everything so much cuter.

How have I never seen these before? Restoration Hardware really thinks of everything. Perfect for floating the Wenatchee River last weekend!

One of my very favorite flavors, in mini-size. I can totally pass up the normal size, but this one is pretty tough.

Al fresco lunch for my soon-to-be-Sister-in-Law’s bachelorette weekend in Leavenworth.  I love the mini Perrier bottles!

My new Thursday night obsession – the QA Farmers Market

I hope everyone has a weekend filled with al fresco dining and lots of treats! Happy sunny Friday!

Friday Faves

So I just did a quick count, and it turns out this is my 13th Friday Faves post. That means I’ve come up with 65 things to be excited about in the last few months – the better you know me, the more you realize that’s a pretty big accomplishment for my sometimes-not-quite-so-excited little self. And they haven’t all been pictures of my Glassybaby or J.Crew sale finds, even!

Tomato plants on display at Met Market – I would kill for more sun on my deck (or better yet, a full-sun backyard) so I could plant a “salsa garden” like Martha Stewart.

I’ve been cooking a lot of freezer meals for my grandparents – baking mac and cheese in muffin tins is a fun alternative to a normal casserole dish, as you can just pop them out, wrap them in foil, and stick pre-portioned meals into the freezer – easier to store and to use. For bigger portions/appetites, this “jumbo” tin works great. I used this recipe (healthy-ish and always a big hit), but you could do anything you like. If anyone has any good ideas for freezer meals – I have a lot of new moms to bring dinner to as well as Grandma and Grandpa – I would love to hear them in the comments.

So, this is happening. I’m officially a Game of Thrones nerd. Please no one talk to me or try to put anything on my social calendar for awhile – I’ve got something like 5,000 pages to get through.

Has everyone discovered Rent the Runway yet? I wore this Nanette Lepore pink and purple party dress and House of Harlow bangle to my brother and soon-to-be-sister-in-law’s “fiesta” couples’ shower last weekend and both were big hits. And on Sunday morning, I just shoved them into a pre-paid envelope and dropped them off at UPS. So easy and so fun!

For anyone who has ever wondered if you can mix vodka and champagne: the answer is yes. Maybe this was already obvious to you, but I had never thought of it. This fun cocktail (I wish I could remember the name – something mure?) was vodka, champagne, blackberry liquor and lime – it’s like a high-end version of the beer-vodka-crystal light concoction we used to make in college, except served in a champagne flute rather than a cooler.  Delicious and classy – is it time for happy hour yet?

So, that’s 61-65. And now we’re that much closer to 5 pm (or whenever your weekend officially starts – I hope its sooner).  Wishing you all a fabulous Friday and a sunny weekend !
